Regulatory actions

From official sources only. A complaint states allegations; it is not a finding.

  • CFPB (consent order): The CFPB found that Block failed to provide effective customer service (including no live phone agents, which led to fake support lines) and failed to prevent and address fraud. It also found that Block used card chargebacks instead of Regulation E error investigations, misrepresented protections against unauthorized transfers, and violated EFTA/Reg E. Block pays at least $75 million and up to $120 million in redress plus a $55 million civil money penalty (File 2025-CFPB-0001). This is about Cash App fraud and disputes, not Borrow. Status: In force; the CFPB lists it as post order. Source
